22 October 2001 - Work began with protective fencing being put into place

The old chain link fencing 
was just about to come down.

Once the chain link fencing was removed trial holes were dug to see what the ground was like below the surface.

The contractors were ready to start work on demolishing the brick gateway.

The brick gateway was demolished...

and, with a lot of noise(!), 
its foundations were broken up.

Trenches to take the foundations of the new wall were dug along the edge of the school site.

As the earth was removed, it was piled on boarding to protect the tarmac.

Later, lorries came to remove the earth from the school site.

Even before the foundations were laid the bricks for the wall arrived.

The lorry returned ...

to take away the material 
from the old brick gateway.

To get ready for putting in the foundations, deliveries of cement ... 

sand & aggregate - and sheets of polystyrene arrived.
