2002  ~ Year 5 Derbyshire

Rock Climbing at
Watford Gap Service Station!

Despite the rain, we seem to be
enjoying the stiff walk
up to the Heights of Abraham!

Exploring Nestus Mine

Lunch at last

Oh no, yet more uphill walking!

Down in the Great Masson Cavern.

A few minutes 'relaxation'
- this looks exciting!

Exploring what it was like
to move through a miner's tunnel
in the Mining Museum.

Panning for gold at the Temple Mine

At the Youth Hostel, rapt attention listening to Miss Rayner...

before enjoying breakfast
at the start of the second day.

Then off to Castleton to see
the Blue John in Treak Cliff Cavern.

After the Blue John,
came the stalagmites.

With the special lighting
they looked magical.

Just 1,000 years to wait
before they join!

After Treak Cliff, out in the open to look at Mam Tor, the shivering mountain.

Heading off across country we took care on the limestone....

...on our way to Castleton
to rejoin the coach for Ickenham.
