Summer 2006  ~ Installing the Cycle Shelter

As part of our work on Safe Routes To School we have a
Travel Plan that includes in its objectives the
encouragement of cycling as a method of transport.

The creation of the Travel Plan gave the two Breakspear Schools
sufficient money to install a 40-space cycle shelter.

The site was to be the far
corner of the field

The base for the shelter was
marked out ready.

A lorry of liquid concrete arrived...

and the concrete was pumped through onto the marked area.

The surface of the concrete was tapped down to get rid of trapped air
and to make the top as smooth as possible.

Several days later, when the base had set firm,
the parts of the shelter were laid out ready to be assembled.

It quickly took shape.

The finished shelter all ready for use.

There is a special, new, entrance
 to the shelter.

It certainly looks very smart.
