30 March 2006  ~ The New Flagpole - 2

From deep in the bowels of the school, four floors below, the 'tower' was brought up piece by piece and assembled on the highest part of the roof.  This gave extra 'height' and greater stability.

Once again the pole was raised into position...

The pole dropped into its new resting place,
being guided through each of the four hoops in turn.

The final stage was to remove the tape that had held the inner iron rings horizonally, and then drive in wedges to ensure the pole was vertical.

To celebrate the installation of our new flagpole -finished as the sun began to leave the sky- we flew the school flag to greet families the following day as they came to school for the last day of term.

As the men returned to Somerset, where the pole had been made and from where it had been brought earlier in the day, they took with them the rotten remains of the old pole that had done faithful service for the past sixty nine years.
