14 January 2006  ~ Girls' Football-Cup Finalists

Well done to our girls’ football team!
The girls took part in the Ruislip and Northwood 6-aside competition
on Saturday 14 January. Twenty teams from our division took part
and once again the standard of the teams has continued to improve.

We knew we were going with a very strong squad – a number of the girls are regular football players outside school. However, in school, we have trained every Friday lunchtime despite, at times, rather inclement weather.
Their commitment to training has been outstanding!

After winning their opening four matches, they were winners of the division
and went on to meet Whiteheath in the quarter-finals.

The team showed both skill and stamina and ended up winning 3-0.
Hillside
were their next opponents and only one goal separated
the two teams – fortunately our team scored!
In the final, they met a particularly strong team (the organiser did refer to them as ‘Real Madrid’) and courageously fought but ended up losing 2-0.

The competition (which ended up nearly taking four hours) finished with the girls collecting some rather special medals.

What a day it had been!  Thank you to the wonderful group of supportive adults
(and pupils) who came to cheer on the team.
