24 November 2006  ~ Year 4 Roman Day

Early on the 24th (Yes, the 24th!) ... the Romans assembled ...
at Breakspear Junior School -  all were waiting expectantly ...
for the day ahead.
First we heard about Roman life
two thousand years ago
from a Roman Matron.
Then the Legionaries arrived... to take us through some military training.
Also, we understood
we had to listen carefully...
to the orders given.
We quickly learnt to stand to attention in the correct format.
We learnt that disciplined formation was the strength of the Roman army.
Finally... we learnt how to go into battle...
as a close group, using our shields to defend ourselves.
We learnt a lot about what it must have felt like to be a Roman
in England two thousand years ago.
