The Breakspear Archives

11 October 2007  ~ ECO Dome Day - 1

For the first time ever Breakspear played host to a corporate training event.
The staff of estate agents Colliers joined us for the day.  Their mission, to raise money which the charity NEST would use to construct simple ecologically 'friendly' homes for communities on the brink of starvation and homelessness in developing areas of the world.  As part of their day they were to build two miniature versions of the Eco Homes - Eco Domes - on the school site.  They also needed to work with pupils to design exterior decoration for the Domes, to lead two assemblies to tell the school how their work was progressing and to tour the classrooms to brief each class and answer questions.

Something very different - and very exciting!

After school, Wednesday 10 October
A lorry arrives to deliver sand and cement - the main building materials for our Eco Domes - the full scale versions use mud instead!

Thursday 11 October, welcomes and initial briefings over, at 10 a.m. the Eco Group, a representative from each class, joins the Communications Team.  Their first task, to provide initial ideas for the external decoration for the Domes while another 'team' is beginning to telephone around to secure donations.

Meanwhile, outside, work begins on the two Breakspear mini Eco Domes.  The sand and cement is mixed and the first circle is laid.

It is soon 11 a.m. and the Construction Team are surrounded by eager children keen to know what is going on and how much progress has been made!
