Breakspear Plays at Lords!

On Thursday 7 June 2007 a group of cricketers from Years 5 and 6 very much enjoyed a very memorable trip to Lord’s Cricket Ground. After some early practice on the nursery ground, they were greeted by Middlesex and England player, Owais Shah, who fielded a number of questions from the young players. Shortly afterwards, in the team's first match, they lost by just under 30 runs (to the eventual winners of the tournament).

After a spot of lunch, they were then permitted to visit the fantastic media centre or ‘spaceship’ where all the televised recordings of test matches take place. From there, the team toured the grounds and were told the ‘true story’ of the ‘Ashes’. ‘How could such a small vase be valued at £6million?’ they wondered.  Once the team entered the museum, they were intrigued to see ‘The Ashes’, a collection of bats donated by Brian Lara and finally the ‘sparrow’ hit by a cricket ball in a match!

Then it was on to play the second match. A convincing win ensured Breakspear came 3rd in the tournament. Before returning to school, the team found time to sit and watch the MCC team versus Europe and soak up some of the atmosphere.

The squad included: Marwan Mohammad (Captain), Harry Keen (Vice-Captain),
James Haddock, David Minchin, Laurence Bradley, Adam Osman, Sarah Moussadjy, Megan Walsh, Praven Chahal, Joe Shiels, Thomas Newport and Humza Gillet-Waller.
