14 January 2008  ~ Epiphany

Epiphany is a strange word.  It comes from the Greek and means something like 'showing forth' - we haven't got an exact word for it in English.
The Christians use the word to remember the visit of the Magi, wise men, or 'kings'
to the young Jesus.  On 14 January the Rev. Guthrie visited us in assembly to
talk about this special occasion.

The Rev. Guthrie talked about Christmas presents,
and showed us some of the ones he had received.

Then he talked about the three gift to Jesus mentioned in the Bible,
gold, frankincense and myrrh - signs of royalty, god and death.
Strange gifts for a baby!
He told us they had a 'symbolic' meaning for Christians.
