11 March 2009 ~ Visit to Lea Quarry, Denham -1

We were invited to take a party of children to Lea Quarry, Denham on 11 March...
but no more than 30 children.
Who should we take?
We decided to take a few children from each year group.
They would be exploring the archeology of the area -
from the bones of the woolly mammoth to nineteenth century clay pipes.

Two minibuses collected us from school and took us to the quarry.
Most of us had boots on since the ground was going to be muddy.

We heard from the site manager who explained
that the gravel was transported by canal.

Then we had a quiz to do in our groups.

Then it was a short walk across the site and we all lined up
to try out one of the diggers for size.
The cab was a long way off the ground!
