Operation Christmas Child - 1

Wednesday 17th November and a special assembly.
For several weeks we have been packing shoe boxes
with a range of exciting presents, each box for a child we will never meet.
During this assembly we will bring our boxes together,
think of the children who will receive them,
hoping that each box will give pleasure to the child who receives it.

Mrs Davonport had organised the preparation of the boxes so she opened the
assembly by welcoming the Rev. Bernie Collins from the URC
and Mrs. Millar who had come to help him.
Mrs. Millar once taught at Breakspear
(as well as her children having attended the school) so she knows us well!

We all listened careful.  There was a DVD showing us children who received boxes last year.  We heard how this year's boxes would be going to Mozambique in Africa which is north-east of South Africa, and east of Zimbabwe.

Then the Rev. Collins talked to us about Operation Christmas Child
and how it had now been running for twenty years,
with over a million shoeboxes sent abroad
to children who would otherwise go without.

Then it was time for us to bring our boxes together...

and say a blessing, that our boxes will bring happiness
to someone in need at Christmas.
