The Breakspear Archives

Farewells
- Tuesday 17 & Thursday 19 July  2012

Breakspear Junior School said farewell
to two senior members of staff at the end of term.

On Tuesday 17 July the Junior School watched the Year 6 Production.
Mrs Gray thought she knew the script off by heart,
but as the show drew to its conclusion she was surprised by unfamiliar words -
Mrs O'Donnell had written a special ending
so the school could say 'Good Bye' to Mrs Gray.

First there were cards from every class in the school.

Then there was a special gift from the children
and members of staff, past and present.

And a memory book celebrating all the school events
in which Mrs Gray had been involved over the past twelve years.

On Thursday 19 July Mrs Walker suspected there was something going on -
it was unusual to have a morning assembly!
However, she didn't know that she would have to compete
against a team of brains from across the school in a quiz!

Mr Tucker and Miss Cassimatis had been busy!
The school watched - who would win?

There was a maths round - more or less equal scores
(the children lost a point for leaving out a £ sign!)

Then there was a round of 'guess the stone' - blindfold!
Amazingly Mrs Walker only got one wrong.
There was a history round - she certainly knew her Tudors.

But disaster struck with the music round.
The children certainly knew the answers, alas not Mrs Walker.

But all was not lost - to the points gained was added the combined
ages of the contestants in each team!

After the quiz children brought out cards and flowers to celebrate
Mrs Walker's 24 years at Breakspear.

She also received a special garden ornament and a memory book.

Breakspear is fortunate to have had such wonderful teachers.
They will be missed - we wish them every happiness in their retirements.
