We
have a regular cycle of looking at how we teach
the different subjects on our school’s curriculum.
When
we do this, the subject co-ordinator
- the teacher who looks after how that subject is taught in the school
–
looks at the planning throughout the schools,
observes lessons (sometimes with a representative of the Local
Authority),
looks at children’s work, talks to teachers,
talks to the children and checks on the school’s resources.
During
the school year September 2004 to July 2005
Mrs. Slade, who amongst other things is the teacher
who keeps an eye on history, took a detailed look
at how the subject is taught at the school.
As part of this she built up a portfolio of evidence.
When
we looked at it as a staff recently
we were impressed both with the work we cover
and with the quality of the children’s work,
and we wanted to celebrate this in some way.
Above
all, we wanted to share this small part
of our work with you. How?!
Well,
we’ve prepared a web version of this.
Below you will find links to the six different
history study units we teach in the school.
For each of these we have examples of children’s work
(from different ability groups)
pictures of the workshops,
displays around the school
and of the visits.
All
in all it is a very good insight into the work we do.
Each
file is a Adobe Acrobat file and,
to keep the size manageable,
the quality of the pictures, especially, is not always good.
However, we hope you will find the time to take a look.
