Ever since the kitchen was turned into the library in 1992 there remained a number of small rooms to the north.  Over the years these has been used as an office (north facing, no natural light, depressing), some storage cupboards and a space known as the parents' room (cold and cramped.) There was also a small outdoor courtyard. All in all, these were spaces that could be better used!  In 2005 we began considering opening up the whole area into a single space - in 2006 this became a reality!
