Year 4 Trip to the Central Mosque, Regents Park

Year 4 set off for Baker Street by way of Ickenham Station at 9 a.m. on 18 March.
The journey was the same as they had taken
to get to the zoo only a few weeks before.

Once at Baker Street, it was just a few minutes walk
and the mosque was ahead of us.  The women and girls covered their heads
and then we walked in through the main gate and across the courtyard.

Before we entered the prayer hall we all removed our shoes.
Once inside our eyes were drawn to the dome above and the huge chandelier.

We were met at the mosque by the Visits Co-ordinator, Mr Abdurraheem Green.
He talked to us about the mosque and other things to do with Islam.
He pointed out the Mihrab which helps indicate the direction of Mekkah,
and beside it the Minbar, or pulpit.

Later we visited the library, watched part of the midday prayers and then had lunch.

It had been an interesting visit.

As we left the mosque behind us, we walked back through Regents Park.

We all spent quite some time watching this heron,
which did not appear at all worried by 90 children to close to it.

Finally, we all got back on the train and headed home to Ickenham.
There was much to talk about after our visit to the Central Mosque.
