Visit to Renewable Energy Systems - 1

On Tuesday 17 March Mr Saunders, Mrs Clegg and a number of other staff and some parents took the ECO Group and the class Energy Monitors to Renewable Energy Systems who have their home in Kings Langley, just off the M25.

When they arrived there was a brief introduction to the company's work
including some practical demonstrations!

The building and the adjacent land were once part of the Ovaltine Farm, so one of the group donned a milkmaid's bonnet.

Then it was outside to look at solar panels,
using the sun's rays both to heat water
and to generate electricity (as demonstrated by this model train)...

... a close up view of the wind turbine that is such a feature of the landscape while travelling along the nearby section of the M25...

... and the 'elephant' grass, grown to feed the boilers that heat the buildings.

After looking at the grass, the group then looked at where some of it is stored.

After that technical stuff,
all of which is designed to reduce man's potential damage to his environment,
some practical demonstrations - though they felt more like games!
