13 November 2013  ~ 'Shoebox' Assembly

It is Wednesday 13 November.
Over the past few weeks each class has been collecting small items with with to fill shoeboxes full of wonderful gifts - each box to go to a child less fortunate than ourselves and who would otherwise have nothing for Christmas.

We can't all met together for our assembly so the Juniors have theirs first.
As they come in some children are holding the attractively decorated shoe boxes.

Mrs. Murphy introduces Mrs. Whitlam who is going to lead the assembly.

Mrs. Whitlam asks us to think about Christmas
and how we look forward to presents -
what would it be like if there were no presents?

We watch a short video showing the journey our boxes will make
and of the children who received boxes last year
and the pleasure these gave them.

Our boxes this year are going to Belarus.
We then brought forward our boxes, a year group at a time,
for them to be placed on the table.

The table was now piled high with boxes.
We say a prayer as we think of the children who will be made happy by our gifts.

It was then time for the Infant assembly.
There are more boxes ready to be added to those already on the table.

Mrs. Whitlam asks about Christmas and what it means to us.

We all listen very carefully.

Then we add our boxes.  What a lot!  184 Boxes!!
It is then time to take them down to Mrs. Whitlam's car
to start the long journey to Belarus.
