When the original school was first
built in 1937, the bricklayers used a special way of laying the bricks
call English Bond. ("English bond consists of alternating courses of headers and
stretchers, with the alternative headers centred over and under the
vertical joints of the stretchers.") Here is a picture
showing English Bond:
Mr. Saunders checked that the contractors would lay the bricks using English Bond, so it would match the main building - this meant cutting half the bricks in half! |
